In an historic moment in which we are used to reacting by judging and accusing, we must find curiosity and understanding about what surrounds us.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">empathy<\/a>, this term merely implies we are able to mutually acknowledge the wounds of experience. It is not the same as actively getting closer to the Other, as acting together, but is the reciprocal awareness of a bond, a connection allowing us to preserve a sense of humanity. Everyone is aware of the others; social interaction sometimes happens in our minds, side by side without talking or touching. This is the step leading from the universal pleasure of friendliness to a condition of sociability. The French term &ldquo;sociabilit&eacute;&rdquo; denotes the sense of security we need to cope with delicate or hostile social situations.
